Furniture for an apartment in Highpoint II, the Grade I listed modernist housing development from the 1930s that was designed by architect Berthold Lubetkin. The brief involved designing various items of fitted furniture to provide complementary functions for the living room, dining room and bedroom. A table was also required to serve the dual function of a kitchen/dining table as well as additions to abut the ends of the main dining table.
The designs for the fixed furniture needed a simple and refined modernist quality to complement the architectural style of the apartment. They are all finished in walnut with slate top surfaces. The unit in the living room conceals a large flatscreen TV and audio system, as well as a drink store. In the dining room a large cantilevered sideboard and wall-mounted glasses cabinet provide storage and surface space for displaying objects. Various storage units have been installed in the bedroom. The table design borrows from the engineered structure of the Eames Eiffel table with a light elegant triangulated steel structure supporting the two halves of the glass table top.
